In the Republic of Moldova, the main source of electricity comes from thermal power plants that operate on gas, coal, and fuel oil, with a total installed capacity of 2881.4 MW, of which:

The available power of the electricity units that can operate on gas is 1881.4 MW;
The available power of the electricity units that can operate on coal is 800 MW;
The available power of the electricity units that can operate on fuel oil is 1844 MW.

The rest of the electricity is generated from hydraulic resources and renewable energy sources.

The installed capacity of hydroelectric power plants is 64 MW;
The installed capacity of power plants that use renewable energy sources:
- Photovoltaic power plants – 249.95 MW;
- Wind power plants – 174.6 MW;
- Biogas power plants – 7.05 MW.
